Self Realization

So, just now I was listening to Pandora, while cleaning the kitchen. Suddenly a song came on and I instantly loved it. It took me a few moments to get over to the iPod/speakers to see what was playing, and I am still in shock... It was Michael BublĂ©'s Haven't Met You Yet

Not only am I now a mom, but my birthday is next week (one year off of 30) so I have been thinking about what it means to be getting older... and now I like Michael BublĂ©?! Apparently I am solidly in the "adult contemporary" category. What the hell happened?

Back when we got married (read: naive) we talked about how we were going to be those "cool parents" who took their kids to rock shows all the time. Now, not only do we almost never go to rock shows, I would never want to take Tank with me if it could be avoided. Those child free moments are few and far between, and music is sacred. I would never defile a good show by bringing a toddler. Plus... standard bed times are a freaking god send. "Sorry buddy, the clock says 8... It doesn't matter if your not tired." Mommy needs a break.

I recently read an interview with a B-list yet-award-winning musician who commented that when he drops his daughters off at school, they request to be dropped off around the corner so as not to be seen with him. So, if being a famous, award-winning musician doesn't make you cool to your kids, I really think there is no hope at being a cool parent.

So, basically, I just realized that I am getting older. And thats totally cool.

Also... Please excuse my absence lately. I got that job I applied for, and so I have to finish my credential before August- meaning that I have to take a stupid health class about how to count calories and how not to get STD's while sleeping around in college. I'm totally not bitter at all, and I think the class is super valuable. And I totally don't mind spending all of my free time reading really old articles about the food pyramid that was discontinued in 1992.

Bottom line... it may be a few weeks till I get to regular posting again. Which is a total bummer because I have some really, really awesome things to blog about!

Haha, that class sounds kinda interesting and funny.
I look forward to when you have time to blog again.
And you're not old! The fact that you're accepting change (and not being set in your ways) is the kind of flexibility that proves you're not old.
